How to Apply Baseball Glove Conditioner?
Why Condition a Baseball Glove?
Leather is similar to skin in which it contains natural oils that keep it soft and flexible, however overtime (similar to skin) it looses these natural oils due to use and begins to dry out. Due to the loss of natural oils, leather becomes dry and prone to cracking and ripping. To prevent this, leather conditioner is used as a preventative measure to preserve its flexibility and softness. This is especially import for baseball gloves since they are used in various weather conditions and settings.
How to Apply Baseball Glove Conditioner?
1. Using Hands
The first method to apply baseball glove conditioner is to simply use your hands. When using wax-based glove conditioners such as our Glove Renewal Conditioner you can apply some to your hand then apply it to the glove. When applying the conditioner to the glove make sure to spread it evenly throughout the glove creating an even coat. Once an even coat of glove conditioner is applied to the glove let the glove dry for 15 minutes.
2. Using a Soft Cloth
The second method to apply baseball glove conditioner is to use a soft cloth. Using a soft cloth such as our Microfiber Cloth allows conditioner to be applied evenly and without leaving lint on the glove. Avoid using more abrasive cloths as this can lead to premature wearing of the top layer of the glove's leather. Once the conditioner has been applied evenly to the baseball glove allow it to dry for 15 minutes.
3. Using a Soft Bristle Brush
The final method and our recommended method is using a soft bristle brush. When using a soft bristle brush such as our Horsehair Brush apply the conditioner to the brush bristles by moving the brush in a circular motion. Once the conditioner is applied to the brush spread the conditioner to the glove evenly. Once the conditioner is applied to the glove use the brush and massage the conditioner into the leather by using a circular motion. By using a soft bristle brush this will buff the leather and remove any light marks that have been left from use. As an additional step you can use a soft cloth to remove and excess conditioner.
